The Road to the Kingdom of Heaven

  • Mark: 12:29: And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is ONE Lord:
  • Mark: 12:32: And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: (not them)
  • Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.

Coming in contact with God is the highest that a person could have.  It is because the LORD reveals himself to us, only, that we can know him. Most believe that the LORD is in the heavens, and look upward when making reference to where he is, but the scripture says that he is not far from anyone of us.  He has performed and revealed himself, in the heavens among the angels, as well as on earth to mankind.  To be in right relationship with God, one must know the nature of him with who we have desire to engage.

In the old Testament as in the New, we are given certain commands in order to become reconciled to or in right understanding with  God.  Jesus told the Samaritan woman, at a well, "Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews"  John 4:22.   As a people, the Jews were the only race that knew who God was, and worshipped Him according to His plan.  It is important to know what we worship.  What we are commanded to do is to understand that God is ONE Lord, and to love Him. (Mark 12:29).  When Jesus Said these words in the new Testament, they had already been penned by the spirit of God through Moses in the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy.
To know that the LORD is one, is a foundational truth that we  are commanded to do if we are to worship Him.  Notice that Jesus excluded the Samarians from salvation stating only that they did not know who or what they worshipped, yet Jews were included because they did.  Seeing this therefore, it is very important that a person know who or what they worship in order to be included  in the salvation plan.  We are not only commanded to know that He is one, but to love Him with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength.
