The Bible says:
Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 1Corinthians:10:11:
By these examples we can glimpse into the heart of Almighty God. We can know things of the spiritual relationship with a Holy God. We see the testimonies of men and women who have served the Lord and what their service did entail.
We see woman, who began with a great fall in the garden of Eden still having the same control over the man that she was created to help.
But we see that the example from God was one of no respectors of persons. Niether male not female as it is stated in the new testament; was acted out in the old. Women were used in high places in the spiritual service of the one true God.
Sarah gave to her husband Abraham good advice concerning being married to one wife. The LORD told Abraham to listen to his wife when she told him to send Hagar and her son away.
This Egyptian servant of Sarah's was given to him for a second wife, and had born him a son out of the relatonship. The Bible would later say, "cast out the bond woman and her son.
Though Hagar ( Gen 16,21) was an outcast, our Lord is no respecter of persons, she of very few people, an not even Sarah was visited by an angel, not once, but twice.
We see that an esteemed man in the church must also only have one wife.. We note and are told to remember Lot's wife's love for worldly things. She was eventually destroyed for this desire which sat her children among degrading people. We later see that her daughters had been touched by the surrounding attitudes of the promiscuous people of that day. They were ones leaning to their own understanding , and not the ways of God. Their lineage did not have a blessed future. We must remember this example of the result of a lack of purity.
Rebekah was the wife of Isaac. She was told by the Lord that her older son would serve the younger. She was very instrumental in making sure that Jacob received the birthright blessing. She also raised him to be a God fearing man, whom God named Israel.
On the other hand Hannah was the first wife of a priest. Through the sorrow of being a barren wife, she received and answer to her grief which was a son of faith. She showed great thankfulness to the LORD in that she vowed that if He would give her a son' she would return the son to Him. This extremely difficult task she did by giving the Prophet Samuel to work in the Temple as soon as he was weaned.
Because of His great gift, Hannah showed her gratitude in the following lines;
"My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the LORD my horn is lifted high.
My mouth boasts over my enemies,
for I delight in your deliverance.
2 "There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. 1 Sam 2: 1-11:
She showed us the heart of a servant of God, one who is thankful.
Another woman Manoah's wife was visited twice by an angel and told that she would give birth to a son. We see this example of visitations to women in the Old Testament. This example carried into the new testament as well.
